Florida Football: 2023 incoming transfers that will have the most impact
Teradja Mitchell is probably not a better player than some others on this list, but brings to the Florida linebacking room experience, something the room desperately needs.
We saw last year when Ventrell Miller went down how lost Florida looked at getting lined up properly. Mitchell was a regular in Ohio State’s rotation in 2021 before being beaten out in 2022, leading to his transfer.
Mitchell comes to Florida listed at 6-2, 239 pounds and will probably see significant snaps alongside Shemar James. Even if Mitchell himself isn’t flying around the field, having a senior twhoknows how to line up will be valuable for Florida football.
Cam’Ron Jackson is probably the best overall player Billy Napier plucked out of the transfer portal. Jackson is another example of someone who bulked up post high school, transforming from 6-5, 271 pounds to an imposing 6-6, 340 pounds.
Jackson isn’t just big for the sake of being big either. Last year at Memphis he racked up 41 tackles along the defensive line, including eight tackles against rrun-happyNavy.
With dthe efensive line being one tof he position groups hit hardest by transfers and graduation, Jackson figures to be a mainstay in the rotation for the 2023 season.
Micah Mazzccua started 10 games for Baylor in 2022 and according to Pro Football Focus, he graded out as the 2nd best guard in the Big 12 for 2022.
Mazzccua will be critical for Florida’s success in 2023 because even with questions at QB, the Gators should still be able to run the ball effectively if Ettiene and Johnson stay healthy.
And if Florida can run the ball, and the pass protection can hold up, it might just gallow Mertzto not look completely terrible.
But make no mistake about it, if Mertz is going to have a good season then Mazzccua needs to have a good season first. That’s why we here at Hail Florida Hail have Micah Mazzccua projected as the transfer that will have the most impact in 2023.
