Florida Football: 2023 incoming transfers that will have the most impact
Caleb Banks is another example of a low rated recruit out of high school that has put on the weight to transform into a SEC level prospect.
Banks was 6-5, 255 pounds coming out of high school and the defensive tackle is now listed at 6-7, 300 pounds. A member of class of 2021, he only appeared in two games with Louisville over two seasons.
Banks is still an unknown product on the field, but does have the potential to team up with Desmond Watson to form a wall along the defensive line.
Anytime a team gets a cast off from Alabama, there is certainly an expectation of excellence that comes with it. George has starting experience, having started at right tackle against Auburn and Arkansas in 2021, but he never cracked the lineup as a mainstay starter.
After seeing the field just twice in 2022, George makes his way to Gainesville and projects to be a starter for Florida football in 2023 along a very depleted offensive line.
His impact will be dictated by his offseason development as hasn’t taken a ton of snaps at right tackle during his three seasons of college football.
Everyone’s favorite punching bag that we are now trying to convince ourselves isn’t that bad, Graham Mertz comes to Gainesville after an underwhelming time at Wisconsin. Mertz was a highly thought-of prospect out of Kansas that was the 3rd best pro-style QB in the class of 2019, but it never clicked in Madison.
In reality, if Mertz is the one player Florida football needs a good season out of to have any hope in 2023. After Jaden Rashada never arrived on campus, the QB battle will be between Mertz and Jack Miller.
If we were to go off semantics of which player will have the most “impact,” then Mertz would be ranked number one oonthis list. But “impact” can be both positive and negative, and while Wisconsin did use a stagnant offense that rarely used play action it remains to be seen if Mertz can hold up in the SEC when the only Big 10 opponent he had success against was Northwestern.
