The last time Florida took on Alabama, the meet came down to the final rotation. The Gators were trailing Alabama but were able to pull out the victory 197.00 to 196.925.

On paper, Florida is the favorite and could have this meet wrapped up by the time the final rotation comes around. Florida posted a 197.825 last week behind the strength of Trinity Thomas and Leanne Wong both scoring a 10.

The Crimson Tide scored as high as 198.175 last season and Alabama comes into the meet having defeated 16th-ranked Arkansas last week. However, the Crimson Tide only posted a score of 196.55.

Firepower up top for the Florida Gators should be the key tonight. On vault, the Gators boast two gymnasts (Thomas and Kayla Dicello) that scored 9.90 last week whereas Alabama didn’t have anyone go over 9.90.

On uneven bars, Alabama had their highest scoring performance of the night when Luisa Blanco posted a 9.90, but again Florida had Thomas score a Wong score a 10, Thomas scored 9.975, and Dicello posted a 9.925.

Wong also had a 10 on balance beam along with Dicello posting a 9.925. Alabama didn’t have anyone score in the 9.9s.

Closing out on floor, the Florida Gators had four gymnasts score at least a 9.90 (Thomas, Wong, Payton Richards, and Victoria Nguyen) including the perfect 10 by Thomas. Alabama was led by 9.875 from Gabby Gladieux.

Florida has their sights set well beyond beating Alabama tonight. For the Gators to get over the hump and win Nationals they will want to approach 198. But tonight will be a good test to see how the Gators react on the road, away from the friendly confines of Gainesville.
