The continued roster for flip for the Florida Gators will continue as safety Rashad Torrence announced on Twitter that he will forego his remaining eligibility and is declaring for the NFL draft.  Torrence came to Florida as a mid-tier recruit in Dan Mullen’s class of 2020, but he immediately saw time on the field and cemented himself as a starter in 2021.

This year, playing alongside Trey Dean most of the year, Torrence led the team in tackles with 84 total tackles and was opted to play in the Las Vegas Bowl, where he had eight tackles.

With the bonus Covid season, Torrence still had two years of eligibility.

His departure leaves another hole in the Florida Gators defense that will need to be filled. We know Kamari Wilson is primed and ready. Beyond that is anyone’s guess.

Florida Gators: Transfer target going to be on campus

Speaking of holes to fill, the defensive line could use an extra body or two for 2023. Right on cue, Cam’Ron Jackson from Memphis declared for the transfer portal, and Billy Napier is pulling out the stops to get the 6’6, 340 pounds defensive tackle on campus.

As reported by Zach Goodall of FanNation, there is already a visit lined up on January 6th.

Other news and notes

The Florida Gators have a litany of famous alumni when it comes to swimming, and they also attract a lot of talented swimmers to hang around the program.

Katie Ledecky graduated from Stanford, but is currently in Gainesville as a volunteer coach for the Gators. After winning four goal medals at the 2022 FINA World Championships in June, Ledecky was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.

It is the second time she had won the award, the first being in 2017.

Keep up with all things Florida Gators with Hail Florida Hail.
