Florida Football: Treyaun Webb reminds Gator fans it’s always business
If you are not someone who dives deep into the depths of Florida football Twitter, consider yourself lucky. One moment all is calm in Gator Nation, the next everyone is in a panic because of a tweet a high school kid sent out.
Such was the case on Sunday when incoming running back Treyaun Webb tweeted out a catchphrase of his, and people didn’t recognize it was his catchphrase.
Florida Football: He’s never lied
Webb is a four-star prospect out of Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville. He was second in the state in the 1A Metro division this past season with 20 rushing touchdowns in 11 games played. Since his commitment to Florida in July, Webb has been very active on both Twitter and behind the scenes trying to recruit other players to become a member of Florida football.
One of the things he loves to do is send out cryptic messages that indicate a big-name recruit is about to sign or flip with Florida. This was the case on Sunday when he sent out a tweet with the phrase “It’s always business, it’s never personal.”
Those not as in tune with Webb and his social media dealings started to sound alarm bells because it was also noted that Webb had scrubbed Florida football from his bio. Webb is high school teammate with former Gator commit Marcus Stokes, who was released from commitment after a controversial video surfaced. Some theorized Webb was going to follow Stokes.
After letting the cycle play out for a while, Webb chimed back in telling everyone to chill out.
If we are to dig and interpret what Webb meant, there is a good chance that four-star running back Mark Fletcher out of American Heritage High is going to commit to the Gators. A commitment from Fletcher would give Florida a crowded running back room for 2023, with Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson coming back. It’s not unrealistic to think that if Fletcher does come, either he or Webb will eventually hit the portal.
That’s not a bad thing. It means Billy Napier isn’t afraid to make guys compete for their spots and isn’t promising guaranteed playing time.
Hopefully, today on Gator Twitter can a little calmer.
Hopefully.
