Florida football is in the market for a transfer QB this offseason after Jalen Kitna’s dismissal and Anthony Richardson declaring for the NFL Draft. We already talked about some of the Gators’ options at QB in the portal, but now a new name has emerged.

Florida is now the favorite to land Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders, according to bookies.com.

While he isn’t the flashiest with his arm or his legs and isn’t the best QB in the portal to date, Sanders would be a solid addition to the team.

His years of experience will help him stay focused in the SEC, and he can be a great mentor to Jaden Rashada during his freshman season.

This season Sanders was a little banged up at times and threw for 2,642 yards on a 57.6% completion rate with a 17:9 TD-to-INT ratio. He was also a threat with his legs, running for 391 yards and eight touchdowns.

With his injuries this year and Oklahoma State only going 7-5, his film this season doesn’t quite capture what he can do. He had a great career for the Cowboys and will improve whichever school he does decide to transfer to.

If Napier and the Gators do want to land Spencer, they’ll have to beat out Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Arizona State. Again, these are all just predictions this early in the process, without tons of real evidence to back them up.

That said, Sanders would be a good fit in Gainesville. His ability to be a dual-threat QB will work well in Napier’s system that will feature a prominent running game again next season. And if Ricky Pearsall stays around, Sanders will have a deep wide receiving core around him.

While Spencer Sanders may not have the flare that Devin Leary or Austin Reed have, it would be a mistake to overlook him as the QB that could save the Gators next season.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
