Tonight, to kick off conference championship weekend, the Utah Utes beat the USC Trojans in the PAC-12 championship. However, it’s the Florida football team that earned the rights to the PAC  12 throne.

With the Gators boasting a week one win over Cam Rising and the Utes, they also lay claim to the entire PAC-12 conference.

The season didn’t end the way that Gator fans wanted it to, with losses to Vanderbilt and FSU, and a bowl game pending. Not to mention the Jalen Kitna news, and guys like Justin Shorter and Donovan McMillon moving on next year to the draft and transfer portal.

Winning the PAC-12 gives Florida fans something to be happy about as we head into the offseason.

Before I get a bunch of rival fans making fun of me for claiming moral victories and being a loser, let me just say I understand that Florida didn’t actually win the PAC-12, believe it or not.

But…

It kind of makes sense.

Anthony Richardson and the Gators ran the ball all over the defense that was able to contain the Heisman favorite in Caleb Williams. The Gator defense held the Utes to fewer points than the Trojans, who have the best turnover margin in the country.

This is also just another point in the long list of reasons that the SEC is the best conference in college football. A 6-6 SEC East team with five conference losses is better than the PAC-12 champion. That’s really all you need to know.

What this game does truly reveal was the sky-high potential that the Gators had this season. If they consistently played the way they did against Utah, there aren’t many games they would’ve lost, and they certainly would’ve competed every week.

If nothing else Gator fans, take this into the offseason with you: Your Florida Gators are PAC-12 champions.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
