With Florida football’s senior day just a few days away, it’s time to take a look at our best bets for Florida vs South Carolina.

Last week we went 1-1, hitting on the Gators +3.5, but missing terribly on the under. Now the Gators go back home and look to put on a show for their home fans one last time.

USC jr has been struggling this season, but it is worth noting that head coach Shane Beamer has the program trending in the right direction. Will their momentum be enough to keep this game close?

Let’s see.

Florida football: Best bets against South Carolina

In the odds and predictions piece yesterday, I talked about how I was regrettably leaning towards SC to cover 8.5.

To the surprise of no one who knows me, I’ve now talked myself into the Gators covering. Here is my thought process.

When I was thinking about SC +8.5, I thought it was a good bet based on the rest of their schedule. After this week they play Tennessee and Clemson. This game against Florida is their last chance to win a game this season and guarantee a bowl spot. (6 wins aren’t a lock, just eligibility.)

Desperate teams with nothing to lose are hard to beat, nonetheless blow out. Not to mention the Gators’ issues defensively. I still liked UF to win but thought it would be a one-score game.

Now here’s how I talked myself into Gators -8.5.

It’s senior day. The last run for a lot of these guys. You think they won’t come in ready to leave everything on the field? That Gator logo means something.

Now on a more football-related note, the weakness of this Gator team has been the defense. They may have figured something out last week in College Station. Players referenced halftime speeches as the motivation to go out there and shut down the Aggies.

They’ll be plenty motivated for their last home game of the year. I don’t expect them to hold SC to 10-14 points, but they’ll get enough stops to let AR and the offense put some space between the Gators and the Gamecocks.

I also still like the over, which is set at 58.5. I just went on a rant about the defense playing well, but they’ll still surrender a few TDs, and the Gator offense, primarily fueled by AR turning a corner, is looking really good.

So our best bets for this weekend: Gators -8.5, over 58.5.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
