Social media gives athletes a platform to speak their minds and control their own narratives. Some athletes get straight to the point, some athletes post dumb stuff that gets them in trouble, and some athletes like Kamari Wilson do things that cause Florida football fans to raise their eyebrows.

After making a post a couple of weeks ago saying it was his time to shine even though he is still behind Trey Dean on the depth chart, Wilson caused quite the stir within Gators’ social media circles by technically doing nothing.

Florida Football: Nothing is everything

When athletes are disgruntled, one of the common tactics they will use is to remove all references to the team they play for from their social media page. Kyler Murray for example did this recently during contract negotiations with the Arizona Cardinals.

Murray is still with the Cardinals when he can find the time between Call of Duty sessions. This issue can be resolved. But Wilson’s choice to remove all references to Florida football from his Instagram page set off quite a firestorm on Twitter.

Later in the day, a rumor began floating around that Wilson had cleared everything out from his locker. That rumor has since been debunked,

Without being inside the locker room and inside the meetings with the players, we as fans can only guess on what the true intentions of Wilson, or any member of Florida football, are. There are very real reasons for Wilson to feel frustrated, as he is stuck behind Trey Dean despite a series of errors from the veteran.

One of the biggest problems with the Florida Gators under Dan Mullen was his insistence on playing veterans over newcomers even if there was clear the newcomer was better. And as much as Billy Napier preaches culture and has praised certain guys from grinding in practice to earn playing time, his message gets undercut if Wilson is outperforming Dean but not playing (which we don’t know for sure).

Only Napier and Wilson know the true answer. All we can do is trust the process for now.

Keep up with all things Florida football with Hail Florida Hail.
