It’s that time of year folks. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is upon us. Florida football is about to meet its toughest opponent of the year, the Georgia Bulldogs.

It goes without saying that this rivalry doesn’t generally have 3-touchdown spreads. Unfortunately for the Gators, they’re on the wrong side of a lopsided projection for this weekend.

UGA is the #1 team in the country, and the Gators are in rebuild mode with a defense that can’t seem to get off the field on 3rd downs.

All of this said, it’s a rivalry game. Anything can happen. Before UF tries to pull off an incredible upset, let’s take a look at what the oddsmakers think of this game.

Florida football: Odds for week 9

Gator fans look away. Vegas doesn’t see much going right for Florida this weekend.

The Gators open up as 21.5 point underdogs, and are +1000 to win this game outright.

Yikes. This is the second largest spread in series history, only beaten by the 1995 Gators who were favored by 23.5, and won 52-17.

The line probably won’t move in Florida’s favor either. 62% of spread bets are for Georgia, as well as 73% of the money saying that this one will get out of hand.

It’s frustrating, but there isn’t much of an argument to say this line should move down. Florida has shown that it really struggles defensively to generate turnovers and get 3rd down stops. That won’t beat the best team in the country.

Let’s move on to a bet that is less anti-Florida. The over under. Yay!

The total is currently sitting at 55.5. This is pretty much on par with what UF’s games have been projected at all year. I’ll save my reasoning for our best bets piece on Thursday, but my first instinct is the under here.

Here’s the important thing to keep in mind, regardless of what the books say.

This is Florida-Georgia. Both teams understand the importance of this game. The Gators won’t see this spread and just roll over. Tyreak Sapp said it best earlier this week: “They put their cleats on the same way we do.”
