Florida Football: Six plays that could have flipped Gators season
Florida Football: Anthony Richardson meltdown
Coming off the Utah game, expectations were sky-high for Florida football. Given the injuries and struggles some other SEC teams had during opening week, it felt like a 10-win season for Florida was going to happen.
Then Anthony Richardson imploded against Kentucky.
Kentucky was without star running back Chris Rodriguez and despite what people try and say, quarterback Will Levis is not anything special. Patrick Toney and the Gators’ defense hele Kentucky mostly in check the entire game.
Richardson however looked like a shell of himself and was a completely different QB from the week prior. Even with his struggles, Florida was still tied with Kentucky in the 3rd quarter and had a decent drive going into Kentucky territory.
Then Nay’Quan Wright was sent out wide and ran a go route when Richardson thought it was a curl.
Kentucky jumped the route and returned it for a TD.
If Florida had just leaned on the run game and win the field position battle, the Gators could have kicked a field goal and escaped. The only other points Kentucky scored after that play was a field goal they were gifted after Florida failed on fourth down.
