Florida Football: Netflix documentary probably doesn’t end well for the Gators

The 2008 Florida Gators were a legendary team in the history of college football. They went 13-1, with all 13 wins be double digits and the single loss being by a single point (followed by Tim Tebow promising Florida football would never lose again).

The on-field performance alone would warrant a nice hour-long feature. Netflix however is allegedly working on a four-part and let’s just say they are going to focus on more than just Major Wright decleating an Oklahoma receiver in the National Title game.

Florida Football: The Swamps of Florida

It has been previously rumored that Netflix was in the works on a documentary. Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer were a couple of the key pieces for Florida football rumored to take part in the documentary.

Yesterday Gator Twitter was set ablaze when the working title for the Netflix documentary showed up on IMBD.

The name alone implies that Netflix is going to dive into some of the behind-the-scenes problems the 2008 team had, both in 2008 and after the fact. It has been reported that 41 members of the squad eventually got arrested.

Some of the greatest hits Netflix is sure to focus on are:

  • Ronnie Wilson getting charged with battery and shooting a semiautomatic rifle during a dispute
  • Cam Newton, yes that Can Newton, stealing laptops
  • Avery Atkins being charged with battery in 2006, transferring, then dying of a drug overdose in 2007
  • Riley Cooper resisted an officer. Then in 2013 he said some magic words he should not have said during a Kenny Chesney concert
  • Aaron Hernandez, well you know

There is no way this ends well for Florida football. Meyer will be cast as the coach who had zero control of his team, which is probably fair.

Tebow’s portrayal could go either way. Will he be the glue that held this mess together or will he be the QB that no one actually listed to?

Get your popcorn ready and probably something soft nearby in case you want to throw something at the TV.

Keep up with all things Florida football with Hail Florida Hail.
