We are taking a break from Florida football preparing for LSU to inform you that Billy Napier is still killing it on the recruiting trail. After seemingly falling behind in the summer in recruiting after missing on a couple of big names, Napier and his staff have roared back with a vengeance to give the Florida Gators a top 10 class that is only getting better.

Florida Football: Wearing sunglasses at night

“Billy Napier can’t recruit”

“G5 Billy sucks”

“Two-star Napier”

Billy Napier wears he sunglasses at night so he can, so he can make you look like a fool.

Napier got to put on his sunglasses twice yesterday as Bryce Thornton and Dijon Johnson both announced their commitments to Florida football.

Thornton, the 5-11 192 pound CB/FS out of Georgia, and Johnson, the 6-1 190 pound CB out of Tampa, continue the impressive haul Napier is having in his first full recruiting cycle. According to 247 Sports, Florida is now ranked 8th in the country for its 2023 recruiting class.

Johnson in particular was committed to Ohio State and decided he would rather stay home, and it’s not the first guy Napier has gotten to flip.

The exciting part is that Florida isn’t done with this class. According to the class calculator from 247, if Florida football can get a commitment from Cormani McClain, top ranked defensive back in the country out of Lakeland High, and from Keon Keeley, top ranked defensive end out of Berkeley Prep in Tampa, the Gators would need just one top 300 commitment from literarily anyone to have the third ranked class for 2023.

To fair, this class is very defensive back heavy. Napier could probably benefit from taking one more offensive lineman and could probably use another linebacker. Beyond that, Napier had three four-star receivers, a four-star QB, and of the 20 commitments so far, 17 are four-star guys.

Recruiting doesn’t automatically win you anything. Ask Texas A&M or Miami. But Florida was a shoe throw and a defensive coordinator away from a national title in 2020 despite Mullen’s indifference to recruiting. If Napier can keep getting the talent he is getting to Gainesville, he will 100% have the players in place to win a national title down the road.

Keep up with all things Florida football with Hail Florida Hail.
