Florida football: Gators land 4 star DB Dijon Johnson
By Will Thomas
Maybe Jaydon Hill’s recent success helped boost Florida football’s DB recruiting, as they just picked up a big-time prospect.
The Gators landed 4 star CB Dijon Johnson, who was originally committed to Ohio State
247 Sports has Dijon ranked as the 16th-best CB in the class of 2023, and the 162nd-best player overall.
Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports had high praise for the corner out of Tampa. Ivins said of Johnson, he is “Smooth and controlled in his backpedal…Fires out of his breaks with ease more times than not and is able to change directions better than most with his length”
Ivins did also compare Johnson to former Gator corner Marco Wilson, so as long as everyone ties their shoes tighter he’ll be a good fit in Gainesville.
At 6’1”-190, Dijon already has great size to be successful on the outside in college. He also has elite speed, as he logged a laser-timed 4.5 40-yard dash and a 4.4 short shuttle.
That combination of size and speed is rare to find out of a corner still in high school, so with time to develop under Corey Raymond, we can only imagine how good Johnson can become.
So how does Dijon fit in with the Gators?
Well for starters, any elite DB belongs at Florida. DBU isn’t a title that we just stumbled upon, we earned it.
With Corey Raymond to coach him, and guys like Jason Marshall Jr. and Jaydon Hill to mentor him, Johnson will be an elite corner in no time. He likely won’t see much meaningful action during his first year on campus, but that won’t limit him from getting better.
Probably the best part about landing Dijon is the number of mustard jokes I get to make whenever he’s on the field. So get ready for that.
Keep up with Florida football here.
