. . . AMARI BURNEY. C -

Amari Burney is another guy for Florida football that makes just enough plays to hang around but just doesn’t seem to have a clear grasp of what is needed consistently to maintain a high level of play.

Burney made the interception against Utah that saved the game and against Tennessee he actually had a decent game, recording seven solo tackles and two sacks.

What was obvious though against USF is that without Ventrell Miller beside him to guide the defense, Burney just didn’t know what to do. Gaps were never filled, alignment was never set, and Burney ended the game with just three solo tackles despite USF running right at him all game long.

Burney is one of the super seniors taking advantage of an extra year due to the 2020 Covid season, but he needs to be careful that Shemar James doesn’t take his spot by season’s end.
