Generally speaking, a player should celebrate after a big play. Football is an emotional game and players should get excited. And fans of Florida football in general will back up a player’s desire to celebrate.

But when you can’t back up your celebrations with your play on the field, you’re going to draw the ire of Gator Nation.

So in a memo to Trey Dean from all Florida football fans, stop celebrating until further notice.

Florida football: Trey Dean has spent too much time on Bowflex

Last week against USF, Dean had a handful of solid tackles and he was forced to do so because the linebackers couldn’t do their job.

The issue last week wasn’t with Dean’s on-field performance, it was what he did after each tackle.

USF would pick up a first down and rather than get in his linebacker’s face telling them how to improve, Dean was flexing in the face of the USF players that were marching the ball down the field in his face.

Now if Dean himself was reliable on the back end we could look past the flexing as something dumb but not the end of the world.

Florida football: Oops, my bad

Right before Tennessee ripped off their 70-yard pass in the first half, my TV/Internet blipped as the snap was made.

Dean’s inability to cover the slot was so obvious that I knew the whole time Tennessee had hit a deep bomb to the slot before even snapping the ball.

That was followed up with Dean, Mr. NIL from Bowflex himself, diving at the feet of Tennessee receivers rather than trying to wrap up and make a tackle.

It’s one thing when freshmen make these mistakes. Shemar James has made mistakes but genuinely looks likes he’s trying to improve.

Dean is a senior and should know better. But he and the rest of Todd Grantham’s left overs don’t. In time these guys will cycle out of the Florida football program and the future is still bright.

But until then Mr. Dean, less time on Bowflex and more time in the film room.
