As Florida football is ready to bounce back from a tough loss last weekend, they should have a good bit of optimism heading into their week 3 matchup.

The USF Bulls are coming to Gainesville for their first of two games in the Swamp in the school’s 2-for-1 deal, and the Gators’ offense is licking their chops at the chance to play against these guys.

As we all know, the Gators are a ground-heavy team. With Anthony Richardson, Trevor Etienne, Montrell Johnson, and Nay’Quan Wright, UF has a four-headed monster that will run right through you.

The best news for this week is that, unlike Kentucky, USF isn’t going to be able to contain anybody the Gators throw at them.

In USF’s week one contest against BYU, the Cougars ran for 312 yards.

312. BYU.

If Christopher Brooks, who averages 2.4 yards per attempt against ranked opponents, can go for 135 and a TD, imagined what AR is going to do.

The leader of the Bull’s defense is senior DB Mekhi Lapointe. Lapointe leads his team with 14 tackles and an INT through two games.

Lapointe, being in the secondary, won’t be able to do much to contain the running game of Florida.

As you look down the list of USF’s defense, they don’t have a d-lineman with more than seven solo tackles. Their second best has 4.

The guys up front for USF simply don’t disrupt an offense to the level that they need to in order to stop the run.

If these guys couldn’t blow up Howard’s offensive line, I can only imagine what guys like O’Cyrus Torrence are going to do to them this weekend.

With USF being the opponent, there really isn’t much else to break down about their defensive scheme. They’ve been giving up points to non-P5 offenses, and are easily gashed for chunk plays on the ground.

The Gators needed a reset game to get their momentum going again. This should be just that.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
