The best way for Florida Gators fans to ease the pain of Saturday’s loss to Kentucky is to watch Florida defeat our neighbors to the west tonight. Gator volleyball will take on the 7-2 FSU Seminoles tonight in the O-Dome at 7 PM. The game will also be on ESPNU.

Volleyball is coming off a successful weekend at the Sunshine Invitational. Hosted at home, Florida knocked off Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, and VCU. All three matches were won 3-0 and the closest anyone got to taking a set off Florida was FGCU after the Gators won set one 25-23.

Of the eight other sets, Florida won over the weekend, only one other set saw the opposition score at least 20 points. In each match, the Gators had a different leader on the attack. Sofia Victoria had 11 kills vs VCU, Marina Markova had 12 kills vs FGCU, and AC Fitzpatrick had 10 kills vs Georgia Southern.

Volleyball is currently ranked 15th in the nation.

Florida Gators soccer: When it rains it pours

We have detailed the struggles the Florida Gators soccer have had this season. Against ECU on Sunday the Gators were competitive but to quote Taylor Swift, I think I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending.

Amid a driving rainstorm Sunday, Florida and ECU were scoreless at halftime. Florida was gifted a PK early in the second half when ECU was guilty of a handball in the box off a cross.

Delaney Tauzel buried the ensuing PK to put Florida up 1-0. Ten minutes later ECU was awarded a dubious PK and tied it 1-1.

The next 30 minutes were rough for both squads as a driving rain storm came through, causing puddles to form on the field. Florida had shots, 18 in total, just not shots on goal as most attempts came from 20 yards out.

The play was halted with 15 minutes to go and when play resumed, ECU was awarded a free kick from 22 yards out with six minutes to play. Florida’s wall placement wasn’t the greatest and ECU hit a low shot that went right past the wall and tucked inside the post to give ECU the 2-1 win.

The Gators are now 2-5-0 on the season, with three of the losses coming off goals surrendered in the last 15 minutes. Florida opens conference play against Tennessee on Thursday.

Florida Gators cross country: Off and running

Showing some love to the cross country team, the Gators were victorious on the men’s and women’s sides a couple of weeks ago at the UCF Invite. Emily Culley won the women’s race and Josh Stern was the runner-up in the men’s.

Florida held back most of their A-squad and judging by its schedule the Gators don’t plan to run the A-squad more than twice before the SEC championships in late October. Florida will be traveling to Ole Miss this weekend for the SEC Preview Meet.

Florida Gators football: To the victor go the spoils

Opposing teams love to imitate the Florida Gators any chance they get. Doing the Gator Chomp is a classic taunt, though unlike Texas the Gators keep their cool when it happens.

Kentucky took their win over Florida to the next level by featuring a full gator as part of football’s team meal this week.

QB Will Levis shared the feast and credit to the Wildcats, they earned it. Though Levis, after not having a good game himself, strikes me as the type of guy that doesn’t do anything during a group project but still expects an A.

Keep up with all things Florida Gators with Hail Florida Hail.
