Florida football: Weather report

A lot of discussions have been made about the weather in Gainesville for Saturday’s matchup against Utah and whether or not the Utes can handle September in Florida.

As of now, according to Weather.Com, it’s going to be 79 degrees at kickoff. The bigger concern is the chance of storms. Right now there is a 50% chance of a scattered thunderstorm at 7 PM.

Humidity is going to be over 80%, brining the feels like temperature to 86 degrees at kickoff.

Utah has tried to practice in higher temperatures, but long time Floridians know “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity that will get you.”

Florida football: Announcers

Saturday’s game will be on ESPN. Fans can access ESPN on almost any platform, including Fubo TV. Of note, Sloane Martin will be making her debut as a college football play-by-play announcer. Martin, 33 years-old, will be paired with ESPN mainstay Mike Golic Jr.

Martin has shot up the announcing ladder. As of 2019 she was doing play-by-play for the state tournament for Minnesota high school hockey. She has progressed as a play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and has done college basketball with the Big 10 Network.

It will be interesting to see how Martin handles her first major assignment for college football. All most fans ask for is to get player names correct and look like you have done research on both teams to know what is going on.

Saturday will also be the Gators football radio debut of Sean Kelley, taking over for Mick Hubert. Kelley’s background is also mostly basketball. He was the longtime radio play-by-play guy for the New Orleans Pelicans. He does have experience working with ESPN radio doing play-by-play for college football.

Florida football: Injuries

Given it’s the first game of the season, the injury report for Florida is small. The Gators have announced four players that will be out:

  • Jack Miller
  • Arlis Boardingham
  • Jaydon Hill
  • David Conner

The loss of Boardingham and Conner won’t be much of a factor. Miller being unavailable would become a factor if Anthony Richardson goes down, as Florida’s QB depth is suspect. Hill eats into Florida’s depth at cornerback, but against Utah it might be the one position Florida can afford to lose a depth piece.
