Florida football: The running backs will be the key to a successful offense
By Will Thomas
As we continue to look at certain position groups for Florida football this year, we have now reached the running backs.
We’ve already covered safeties, defensive line, inside linebackers, outside linebackers, wide receivers, and corners.
With limited receiver experience, and a QB who is stronger on the ground than in the air, the Gators are expected to a run heavy team this year, a stark contrast from the offense of years past.
Jabbar Juluke, the running backs coach, has received nothing but praise from both players and other coaches, and will doo a great job developing the Gators’ backs this season.
Without further ado, here are UF’s running backs for the 2022 season.
Florida football running backs: Montrell Johnson Jr.
One of the players with the most hype around them coming into the season is Louisiana transfer Montrell Johnson Jr.
Johnson came over with Napier from the Bayou, and is already looking like RB1 for the season.
During his freshman year at Louisiana, he had 162 carries for 838 yards and 12 touchdowns. His average YPC was 5.2, which will play at any level.
Montrell is a tough tackle at 5’1”-218, and is like a boulder when he’s running down hill.
He also has very quick feet to compliment his strength, and should make a name for himself on the national level this season.
