Florida football: Gators unranked in AP Top 25 preseason poll

The AP Top 25 preseason poll was released on Monday and to the surprise of nobody, Florida football wasn’t ranked. Based on teams “Also receiving votes,” the Gators are currently ranked 37th.

Coming off a 6-7 season that cost everyone their job in Gainesville, leaving Florida unranked is fair. The defense was a mess, the offensive line was a mess, two of Florida’s top receivers have transferred (Justin Shorter and Kemore Gamble).

But compared to some of the teams that did make the list, the inconsistency of the AP voters left a lot of head scratching and based on AP logic one could argue that Florida in fact be ranked heading into 2022.

Texas A&M

Why are the Aggies continuously a thing when they have never actually been a thing?

Everyone has convinced themselves that Jimbo Fisher has this juggernaut program and as a result Texas A&M is ranked 6th heading into the 2022 season.

Based on what?

A one possession loss to LSU?

Florida managed that.

Beating Alabama?

Florida does that if they don’t miss an extra point.

Texas A&M went 8-4 last year and their reward is being ranked 6th.

Somebody make it make sense.

Miami

A&M beat Missouri and South Carolina last year.

Florida did not, so it’s fair enough the Aggies would be ranked ahead of Florida.

But Miami?

The Hurricanes were seal clubbed by Alabama.

The Hurricanes lost to FSU.

The same FSU that Florida beat two weeks later with a coaching staff that was hired off of Wish.

Miami went 7-5 last season and is now ranked 16th heading into 2022.

Is it because they have a new coach that is going to turn things around?

You know who else has a new coach…

Tennessee

Coming in at #26, so technically not ranked but close enough that should raise eyebrows, the 7-6 Volunteers are going to make a magic turnaround this year.

Based on what?

Hendon Hooker making one read that opposing defensive coordinators are eventually going to figure out?

Todd Grantham was able to stop Hooker last season.

Florida was a dumpster fire last year and still beat Tennessee last season.

Yet AP voters still took a look at their ballot and went “You know what, I have more faith in Tennessee than Florida.”

Do you AP voters.

Do you.
