The name Feleipe Franks brings up a lot of memories to fans of the Florida Gators. From the endless adrenaline that came from his Hail Mary against Tennessee, to the feelings of worry and nervousness when he went down against Kentucky, Franks had quite the storied time in Gainesville before he transferred to Arkansas.

After going un-drafted, he landed in Atlanta and was competing for a back up quarterback spot for the Falcons last year. Now, all of a sudden, he’s been turning heads at camp.

But he isn’t calling the plays and slinging the ball around the field.

He’s playing tight end.

Wait, what? Tight end?

Yeah. Tight end.

Players change positions all the time, but it’s rare to see someone go from QB to pass catcher. Ironically, UF has had a few guys who have played both tight end and QB, most notably Trey Burton and Jordan Reed.

When you think about it for a minute, it isn’t that wild that Franks is succeeding there. He has great size, at 6’6”-234, and has no fear of contact.

While he was at UF, he only had one full year as the starting QB. During that season he had 2457 yards in the air to go along with 24-6 TDs vs INTs.

He also lead the Gators to big wins over LSU in The Swamp and Michigan in The Peach Bowl.

It’s great to see a guy like Franks thriving at the next level. He’s going from a guy who would get booed by his home fans to an amazing come back story. He also had to watch Kyle Trask, his backup, take the team to a place he couldn’t bring them.

Despite all this adversity, Franks was always around the team with a smile on his face.

If you call yourself a Gator fan, you should be cheering for Franks. It doesn’t matter that he transferred out of the program, Franks bleeds Orange and Blue.

And we wish nothing but the best for him.

Keep up with the Florida Gators here.
