Florida Gators land 4 star CB Ja’Keem Jackson
By Will Thomas
Things are setting up for a big weekend on the trail for the Florida Gators, and Napier and co. are already making some noise.
Today, 4 star corner Ja’Keem Jackson announced his commitment to UF.
247 Sports has Jackson ranked as the 19th best corner in his class, and the 168th player overall. For what it’s worth, however, Jackson has been flying up the player rankings.
On April 28th, Jackson was the 493rd player in nation, and has since moved up over 300 spots.
The boost in his rankings is well deserved, according to Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports. Since transitioning from WR to CB, he’s shown that he “understands how to put himself in position to make a play at the catch point” and “Has shown that he can press/jam at the line of scrimmage…”
Jackson also has an elite combination of speed and length that Ivins said will make him a starting corner for any top 25 team.
He’s clocked in an official 4.5 40 yard dash, as well as a wind assisted 10.90 in a 100 meter dash.
Ivins did note that Jackson’s talent is raw, and he needs to work a bit on his technique and frame before he can make a legitimate impact in college.
The good news is that he’ll have plenty of time to do just that. Learning under the likes of Jason Marshall Jr. and Jaydon Hill will help him improve his technique and fundamentals, and Mark Hocke will have him much stronger the second he steps on campus.
So what impact does Jackson’s commitment have?
Well for starters, it sets the Gators up for an incredible weekend. With multiple high priority targets making their decision in the next few days, this may the domino that starts a chain reaction.
Jackson is also the second corner to commit to UF this cycle, along with Sharif Denson. As the defensive class starts to fill up, some other targets will likely commit sooner to secure their spot.
Keep up with the Florida Gators here.
