Florida Gators coach Billy Napier finally took the stage at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, and talked to reporters about their program, his methods, and his attitude towards the team.

Here’s what he said.

Running the program

When he first got to Gainesville, Napier made a flurry of hires, assembling a giant coaching staff. Today, he doubled down on that idea, talking about how valuable it is to have a hundred people who do their job well, and the positive effect that it has on a program.

He also stressed how he wants UF football to center around the players. When asked about changes he made on the job, he referenced his desires to set his players up for life after football, and better emphasize their development. The coaches want to prioritize education and forming their athletes into men.

Expectations for the season

When asked about expectations for this season, Napier didn’t get into wins and losses. He instead got into the attitude of the team, and how he expects them to approach the season.

He talked about how the team is coming in with a chip on their shoulder. 6 wins isn’t the standard at UF, and everybody knows it. They’re ready to come out of the locker room and put the Gators back on the map.

Napier expressed how this team is going to be ready to go. “This team isn’t scared…when you put the ball down, they’re about it.”

While showing his optimism, he still talked about how the team is always a work in progress, and always trying to get better. He particularly talked about Anthony Richardson’s development, and how he’s been working to fine tune his skills and become a great QB.

Recruiting

Napier, as every SEC coach is, was asked about recruiting. Believe it or not, there have been times where Gator fans haven’t been happy with the state of Florida Gators recruiting.

Sure, there are some misses, but nobody lands every target. Plus, Napier’s attitude towards recruiting today should ease some Gator fans. He talked about how there are “Four opportunities to add guys to the team.” This quote shows how Napier isn’t going to freak out or panic when certain recruits don’t fall their way.

Instead, he will focus on the big picture, and be patient on the trail. He also reiterated his desire to focus on instate recruits, which he has done a great job of so far.

Keep up with the Florida Gators here.
