The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is given to college football’s top quarterback annually. The list of winners includes an impressive array of quarterbacks including Tim Tebow, Steve Young, Peyton Manning, and Joe Burrow.

To drum up interest in the award, the committee for Davey O’Brien released a preseason watchlist of 35 quarterbacks to keep an eye on this season.

There are some obvious choices on the list.

Bryce Young and Stetson Bennett just faced off in the national championship game.

Bo Nix and Spencer Rattler are notable names playing for new squads this year.

Somehow a list of 35 quarterbacks to keep an eye on missed a particular quarterback out of Gainesville.

Anthony Richardson left off Davey O’Brien watchlist

Preseason lists are usually designed to create debate and ultimately the winner of the Davey O’Brien will be determined at the end of the season.

How exactly though was Anthony Richardson left off this list?

The committee will argue that Richardson only played in seven games last season and has yet to prove himself to be on the watchlist.

You mean the same guy projected to be drafted in this first round of the NFL draft?

Not someone you are interested in watching?

It’s a good thing they will be watching Gerry Bohanon of USF, transfer from Baylor, because they will be the only people watching USF games.

What about Tyler Van Dyke from Miami?

It’s not like just anyone can have a 53% completion rate and two interceptions against FSU.

Nevermind Emory Jones managed a 66% completion rate against FSU.

And he did it without a coaching staff that game.

O well, Miami needs fans in the stadium too.

Remember how Hendon Hooker from Tennessee couldn’t solve Todd Grantham’s defense and went 13 for 23 passing and gained 23 yards on 13 rushing attempts against Florida last year?

Better keep an eye on him just in case.

Richardson may not be on the list of quarterbacks to keep an eye on to start the year.

That probably won’t be the case by the end of the year.
