Just one day after landing Marcus Stokes and Treyaun Webb, the Florida Gators have grabbed another offensive weapon, as 4 star WR Eugene Wilson III announced his commitment to UF.

The Gators beat out Texas A&M for Wilson III’s services.

247 Sports has Wilson III ranked as the 10th best athlete in the nation, and the 147th best player in the class of 2023.

In the 2021 season, Eugene had 62 catches for 925 yards on the offensive side, and had 4 picks to go along with 23 tackles defensively.

The scouting report on Wilson III is basically that he’s The Flash. While he isn’t the biggest guy, Andrew Ivins has described him as “a blur on tape that zigs and zags his way into the end zone.” He clocked the fastest 40 time at the Under Armour All-America Camp with a sub 4.5 time, and is well on his way to breaking the 11 second mark in the 100 meter dash on the track.

Despite primarily playing on the defensive side of the ball growing up, like his father did in the NFL, Wilson III has all the physical tools to be a great route runner and an explosive playmaker. His ability to turn nothing into something, and to make a defense look silly, is the main reason that multiple elite programs offered him a spot on their team.

So how will Wilson III fit in with the Gators?

The way that he plays is somewhat like how Kadarius Toney played during his time in Gainesville. Like a human joystick, he can start and stop impossibly quick, and makes cutting through elite defenders look comically easy.

This would make Eugene a great fit as a slot receiver, slashing across the defense with crossing routes and forcing defenders to always find where he is on the field. With all the attention that Wilson III will be getting, the other guys on the offense will have more chances to shine.

Keep up with the Florida Gators here.
