Given all the noise surrounding Florida right now with recruiting and missing out on some high level prospects, there is a sense of irony that a former golden prospect that wound up with the Florida Gators has announced his entry into the transfer portal.

Demarkcus Bowman announced on Friday that he will be answering the transfer portal.

You Don’t Know Bo

Bowman was a five-star recruit coming out of Lakeland High in 2020. 247 Sports had Bowman ranked as the third best running back in the nation and 20th best overall prospect. Bowman had fans excited about his recruitment after putting up 222 yards as a junior against St. Thomas Aquinas in the 2018 state title game, leading Lakeland to victory.

Bowman ended his high school career with 5,081 yards rushing and 71 touchdowns. He had 4.5 40 speed and had legitimate track and field times to back that up. Many in Gainesville were hopeful Bowman would sign with Florida out of high school given the Lakeland High to Gainesville pipeline, but he opted to sign and enroll at Clemson University.

Bowman’s stay in Clemson would be short. He only appeared in two games, making nine rushing attempts for 32 yards. In October of 2020 Bowman announced he was entering the transfer portal and two days later announced his arrival to Gainesville.

Second Trip To Transfer Portal

Bowman was unable to crack the running back rotation in Gainesville either. He only saw action in four games during the 2021 season, totaling 14 carries for 81 yards, including a 26 yard run against USF.

Coming into the 2022 season, there were opportunities for guys to fill the void at running back. Bowman was competing for the spot with Montrell Johnson, Nay’Quan Wright, Lorenzo Lingard and Trevor Etienne.

Bowman appeared unable to crack that lineup coming out of Spring camp and on Friday announced he was returning to the transfer portal.  Without elaborating, Bowman posted on his Twitter “I love the Ville”
