Florida Basketball: Kowacie Reeves will remain with Gators
Florida basketball guard Kowacie Reeves to remain with Gators for 2022
Things have taken a turn for the better, which is great news for Florida basketball. High-potential prospect Kowacie Reeves will officially be returning to the Gators for the 2022-2023 season, after initial reports that he would be entering the transfer portal. He had 48 hours after his initial declaration to actually enter the portal, however, those 48 hours have expired and he chose not to. Why? He likely got the NIL deal he wanted, like Colin Castleton did, and chose to stay for another year as Florida showed their commitment to him.
What does this mean for the Gators? It means they retain their high-level prospect from the 2021 class and continue to build the future of Florida basketball for their new head coach Todd Golden. This move cements a true core for Golden as well, as he will have some great both new and retained prospects to build around in 2022. The Gators got 2 new transfer portal additions this past week, Will Richard and Alex Fudge, both of whom will be potential-based prospects who could become huge talents for Florida down the road. Newly acquired Alex Fudge, forward from LSU, stated on the 1010XL radio station that he was “really hoping” Reeves would return and that there was “Really nothing to worry about there” in reference to Kowacie returning. This is clearly the case, as Florida basketball got Reeves back within 2 days of his announcement.
It is pretty clear to most that Reeves will be a star in the making for Florida basketball, and that his potential is sky-high for the program. After really amazing performances to end off SEC play last year as well as in the NIT, that concept may have started to come into fruition for those who did not believe in his talent. Reeves was ranked the #10 shooting guard in his class by 247Sports composite grading, and the #42 prospect overall by this same system. Overall, this was the right decision by the Florida basketball program and will be a boon to success in the long run.
