Position to watch #3: Offensive line

Last but certainly not least, is the offensive line.

Head coach Billy Napier’s strategy has been clear from the very beginning, he wants to win in the trenches. So what does he do? He goes and hires former Giants OL coach Rob Sale and former NFL offensive lineman Darnell Stapleton to coach the Gators OL unit. I would say that this current staff is inheriting a solid unit that will only continue to get better.

Within this OL room, there is a ton of experience across the board, which is always a positive. The Gators also added ULL transfer O’Cyrus Torrence, who is expected to be big-time for the team this season. Torrence’s accolades speak for themselves, in 2019 he was on the Freshman All-America team, and in 2020 (second team) and 2021 (first team) he was named All-Conference in the Sun Belt. He will contribute as an elite piece in the puzzle for the Gators.

An interesting position battle that will be worth monitoring is at the Left Guard spot between Ethan White (Sr.) and Joshua Braun (Jr.). White has gathered a lot of experience over the years and has turned out to be a quality SEC offensive lineman, but injuries have definitely affected his availability at times. Josh Braun has also gained a ton of experience over the past two seasons and has looked fantastic at times so it will be interesting to see who gets the nod at LG.

Overall, this OL unit will surprise a lot of people and perform extremely well once the season starts. They should do a great job at giving Anthony Richardson plenty of time to progress through his reads and make the correct throws and if not, he has the ability to scramble and make spectacular plays with his legs.

Keep an eye out for how the offensive line performs.
