Florida football: 4-star Trevor Etienne commits to Gators
By TJ Ostrander
Billy Napier has landed a big offensive weapon today in Trevor Etienne. The 4-star running back picked Florida football over LSU and Clemson. Trevor’s older brother is Travis Etienne, former Clemson star running back and 2021 NFL Draft 1st-round pick.
Etienne made his decision just before the start of the 2022 All-American Bowl, choosing the Gators over LSU and Clemson. His brother plays just 90 minutes down the road for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Trevor was rated the number 14 overall running back in the 2022 recruiting class by 247 recruiting. Trevor is just 5’9 but is a powerful 218 pounds. Expect him to make an immediate impact for the Gators in 2022, as Florida football is losing Malik Davis and Dameon Pierce to the 2022 NFL draft. Demarkcus Bowman, and Nay’Quan Wright are the highest profiled backs left on the 2021 roster, with Wright splitting time with both Davis and Pierce last season.
The Gators lost their two biggest offensive recruits on early signing day – both Nick Evers(QB) and Jayden Gibson(WR) flipped and signed with the Oklahoma Sooners- leaving the Gators offensive recruiting bare. Billy Napier was able to salvage the class with some big defensive recruits, but until the Etienne commit hadn’t managed to secure a highly rated offensive recruit.
Trevor has some big shoes to fill, his brother totaled 70 rushing touchdowns at Clemson and won a national championship alongside Trevor Lawerence. The Gators will need a few more offensive recruits to help salvage the 2022 class.
