Florida Football: Why Anthony Richardson is Ready to Start Full Time
Reason 3: Similar Style to Emory Jones
The final positive to why Anthony Richardson should be the starter is his similarities to Florida’s current/previous starter Emory Jones. As previously mentioned they both are big-play rushers who can make plays outside the pocket both passing and rushing. Richardson has a high-velocity pass that he uses quite often, so does Emory Jones. One of the differences however would be Richardson having an absolute cannon of an arm, and uses it often, while Emory had a good arm but did not use it nearly as often.
Why is this a positive you may ask, as Emory did struggle at times? The main reason it bodes well for Anthony starting is Florida football would not have to make significant changes to the playbook or how they play the game. Rather, they would just make revisions to it to more focus on the strengths of Richardson where Emory lacked. While these two have been in the same room for two seasons now, it is time to make the move to Anthony Richardson once Jones (likely) transfers. Overall Richardson is an exceptional talent and with some work, could become a boon to the Gators offense in 2022 and beyond.
