Reason 1: Previous Florida Football Starting Experience

The most obvious reason to start Richardson over Jack Miller would be that he has already started a game for Florida.  In 2021 he started the whole game against Georgia, as well as playing in the second halves of the games against LSU and FSU.  He has also spent more time on the team clearly and has a better understanding of the scheme as he has been able to take it all in during his true freshman and redshirt freshman seasons.

This experience alone gives Richardson the upper hand over any competition on the Gators for the QB spot.  While he only started the one game and had four total halves of play this season, he looked like he had the capability to turn into a productive quarterback with some more development.  His best game of the year came against LSU, where he would go 10/19 for 167 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and an 89.4 QBR.  While he did struggle against Georgia in his one start, that is somewhat expected against a team that is going to be in this year’s National Championship.
