Emory Jones announced shortly after the Florida Gators victory over Florida State, that he would be entering the transfer portal after the Gators bowl game. It has been almost two weeks since the Gators discouraging loss to Central Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl, but yet Emory Jones name has not appeared in the transfer portal. What exactly is happening with this young man?

Matt Zenitxz, from on3sports tweeted this report on Jones earlier today.

It is entirely possible that Emory may still be entering the portal. He could be waiting to see what certain teams final recruiting classes look like, or seeing what other stragglers will enter the transfer portal as well. A few days ago, Caleb Williams of Oklahoma entered the portal surprisingly, perhaps Jones is willing to wait and see what else will open.

Perhaps Emory Jones has decided to try and stick it out with the Gators. Is it possible that Jones has suddenly changed his mind? This option would be a pretty shocking change of heart. The Florida Gators have already signed a transfer quarterback, Jack Miller. Miller is set to do battle for the Gators starting quarterback job with Anthony Richardson. Former head coach Dan Mullen, had a soft spot for Jones, it was with reluctance that he even turned to Richardson. Billy Napier, Dan Mullen’s successor, has no prior loyalty to Jones.

It really doesn’t seem like Jones has a chance of seeing the field for the Florida Gators in 2022. There has been so much hype around Anthony Richardson, and Jones was already benched several times for the redshirt freshman in 2021. It doesn’t help Jones cause that he had two absolutely horrific games to end the 2021 season. A change of scenery and a fresh start is really what calls for Jones, if he were to remain in Gainesville at best he may see some packages that include him running the ball.

There is just no way Jones can out perform Richardson, or even new transfer Jack Miller. Time to move on Emory, don’t delay the inevitable any longer.

Next. Would Caleb Williams join the Florida Gators?. dark
