Florida Gators football Top 5: Games from the 2006 Championship season
By TJ Ostrander
South Carolina 5-4 @ Florida 8-1 (The Block)
Probably the most memorable regular season game that season for the Gators, and boy was it dramatic. Florida’s season was just a fingertip away from being ruined. The South Carolina Gamecocks came into the Swamp with upset on the mind, and they fought hard till the end under former Gator coach Steve Spurrier.
Stop me if you heard this one before, Dallas Baker scores yet another touchdown in this one, but this time it was to put the Gators up in the first quarter. South Carolina was one of the few offenses who put a dent in the Gators armor in terms of gaining yards as they racked up over 400 yards on offense. The Gamecocks only managed 16 points despite the heavy yardage gained as the Gator defense held in key situations.
Jarvis Moss blocked a South Carolina extra-point attempt in the 4th quarter, which would end up being very significant. Gator legend Tim Tebow plowed into the end-zone from 12 yards out to give the Gators a 17-16 with just over three minutes left in the game. The Gamecocks weren’t done however, they drove down the field and put themselves in field-goal range. This is where Jarvis Moss will go down in Gator lore, as he blocked Ryan Succop’s game winning attempt with six seconds left and secured the victory for Florida.
