Florida Gators football Top 5: Games from the 2006 Championship season
By TJ Ostrander
Florida 2-0 @ Tennessee 2-0
The Gators first test of the year was on the road in Knoxville. Both teams entered at 2-0 and 106,818 packed Neyland Stadium for the annual showdown between the two rivals. Neither team was known for their offense this year and a rock fight ensued.
The Gator run defense showed up in a big way as they limited the Volunteers to uhhhhh -11 yards rushing on 23 attempts. Yup, NEGATIVE yards on the ground for Tennessee. The Gators trailed heading into the 4th quarter, until Dallas Baker hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chris Leak to put the Gators in front 21-20.
Reggie Nelson would seal the victory for the Gators, as he intercepted a pass from Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge with 2:42 remaining. The Gators would kill the clock and escape hostile Knoxville with the win and go to 3-0.
