Gators currently in transfer portal
By TJ Ostrander
Quite a few Gator players jumped ship and entered the NCAA transfer portal in the weeks surrounding Dan Mullen’s dismissal as head football coach. Nothing is certain yet, as players can always withdraw their names and stay, but let’s look at the players who are looking for a new home next season.
Mohamoud Diabate LB
Date entered portal: 12/10/21
A definite loss in the linebacking core for the Gators. Diabate was a starter for the last two seasons for Florida and he recently totaled 89 tackles this past season. The former 4-star recruit appeared in 42 games for the Gators.
Jacob Copeland WR
Date entered portal: 12/9/21
Jacob is a controversial player headed to the portal. Many expected so much from him in this past season, and it was underwhelming season for the player given the #1 jersey. Copeland had a lot of slack to pick up with the departure of 3 big playmakers from 2020. Maybe it was the pressure, maybe it was also a lack of playmaking from the quarterback position. Copeland caught 39 passes for 4 touchdowns this past season and has 84 catches in 31 career games for Florida.
Lloyd Summerrall III LB
Date entered portal: 12/2/21
Not a hugely surprising move here. Summerrall has barely seen the field in his 3 seasons in Gainesville. The former 4-star recruit has appeared in just 7 games and has 8 tackles to his credit.
Khris Bogle DE
Date entered portal: 12/1/21
Another big blow the Gator defense as Bogle has gotten playing time over the last 3 seasons. The edge rusher has appeared in 30 games with 67 tackles and 7 sacks to his name.
Gerald Mincey OT
Date entered portal: 11/29/21
Mincey has not appeared in an NCAA game yet. He is a former 3-star recruit and even though the Gator O-line is already weak, he will be taking his chances elsewhere.
Dante Zanders DL
Date entered portal: 11/29/21
Dante first committed to Florida as a tight end back in 2018. The Gators had some stiff competition at the position, so he switched over to the D-line. He appeared in 2 games in 2021 and registered 6 tackles. He was a 3-star recruit as a tight end.
Elijah Blades CB
Date entered portal: 10/11/21
It’s been a rocky go for this young man. He was considered the top JUCO cornerback in the country when he first committed to Texas A&M in 2018. After two years with the Aggies, he transferred to Gainesville this past offseason. The former 4-star recruit only appeared in 2 games with the Gators in 2021, and now is looking to move on yet again.
