The New York Jets are fools for not paying Marcus Maye

It’s 2021, and the New York Jets are still the same old New York Jets. If you don’t know what I mean, look how they handled the contract situation for former Florida Gators and current starting safety Marcus Maye.

Maye, who the Jets franchise tagged this offseason, is one of the Jets’ best players on their defense and one of their leaders too.

Maye was looking for a new contract, and it was a great opportunity for the Jets to show they aren’t the same organization that consistently drops the ball regarding their best players.

Well, the Jets dropped the ball again.

The window to sign a franchise-tagged player to a long-term deal is officially over, and the Jets are still officially fools.

Marcus Maye is the best player on the Jets’ defense.

Great organizations keep their best players, and the Jets may be losing another star player after the 2021 season.

Maye will be a free agent after this season, and without the Jets showing him love, I do not see how he would remain in New York.

Oddly enough, Maye is currently the best player on the Jets’ defense. Quinnen Williams is a great player but turn on the film last year. Maye was the best, and he’s one of the best safeties in the NFL.

He can cover tight ends, help in the run game, and flies around the field. He adds juice to the defense, and he earned a new contract.

The Jets should’ve paid him and showed they will reward their best players. Instead, they played hardball and not only showed the current Jets players how they will continue to operate, but they showed free agents how they operate as well.

If Maye has an All-Pro season, the Jets will feel like even bigger fools than they already are for not paying Maye when they had the chance.

Next. The New York Jets should trade La’Mical Perine. dark
