Florida football: Kemore Gamble has a tough challenge ahead
By Jeremy Klump
Florida Gators tight end Kemore Gamble is a solid player.
I wanted to start with that because I hate comparing players to elite NFL talents as if that doesn’t mean they are still good.
Gamble has the impossible challenge of replacing the No. 1 player in the 2021 NFL Draft, Kyle Pitts.
Pitts was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick. Pitts was the first non-quarterback drafted, and it’s because he’s an incredible talent at the position.
Pitts shined as a Gator in 2020, and replacing him is impossible.
Kemore Gamble will try his best.
Expecting Gamble to replace Pitts and be as good as him is just unrealistic. I think it’s unfair even to try and compare the two players, mainly because Pitts is a once-in-a-lifetime type player.
Gamble did replace Pitts a few games in 2020, and he did a solid job. He ended the year with ten receptions, 160 yards, and three scores.
The Gators do not need him to be Pitts, but they need him to be productive.
Florida will likely showcase other tight ends on the roster, but Gamble will be the No. 1 guy.
And the No. 1 guy has changed his number from 88 to No. 2. The new number will be a nice fresh start for Gamble to get ready to be the best Kemore Gamble he can be.
If Gamble can be the Alpha in the tight end room, with Keon Zipperer and Jonathan Odom contributing as well, the Gators will be just fine at tight end in 2021.
Florida also has true freshmen Nick Elksnis and Gage Wilcox, but they shouldn’t be counted on this season.
Gamble should lead all Gators tight ends in catches, yards, and touchdowns this season. And while he has the tough challenge of being the player that has to replace Pitts, he should do just fine this season showcasing his own skillset.
