The Florida Gators are in great hands under head football coach Dan Mullen.

Florida football fans know too well how a bad coach can set a program back. Look no further than the Will Muschamp mess or the Jim McElwain nightmare.

Mullen’s expectations were always high, as you’re expected to win at Florida. But following those two disasters made it a little easier because fixing the mess those coaches left behind would put you in good graces with Gators fans.

Mullen has taken the challenge with open arms, and Florida has clearly appreciated all of his hard work in his three years as the Gators head coach.

Mullen and the Gators agreed to a well-deserved contract extension this offseason. Extending Mullen was a no-brainer for Florida.

Dan Mullen is an incredible coach.

Mullen’s been knocked for his recruiting in the past, but he’s been doing a great job so far for the Gators’ 2022 class.

Mullen has had a need for speed, and he landed a pair of wide receivers that will fit perfectly in his offense.

CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd released a “2021 College Football Hot Seat Rankings: Evaluating the job security of all 130 FBS coaches” article, where he ranked each coach’s job security with the school they are coaching.

The CBS rankings featured 22 coaches regarded as “untouchable,” but somehow, Mullen was not one of those 22.

Instead, Mullen was ranked as “secure and safe,” with 52 other coaches.

While “secure and safe” may sound reasonable enough, it was surely a backhanded comment to Mullen, who is 29-9 as the Gators head coach.

If 22 other coaches in college football are untouchable, Mullen better be included on that list.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was listed as untouchable, and Mullen is a better coach than Smart. The Gators dominated Georgia last season, and they are going to dominate them again in 2021.

Florida obviously needs to keep winning games, but the Gators fans should be worried about Mullen leaving for the NFL instead of Florida firing him.

Mullen has shown that he’s an incredible coach, and he’s what the Gators need. So while CBS thinks he’s just “secure and safe,” Mullen is “untouchable,” and for good reasons.
