Gervon Dexter will be an impact player for the Gators

As the Florida Gators look to get their defense back on track, their defensive line will need to improve in 2021. However, one player that the Gators and their fans should count on is sophomore defensive tackle Gervon Dexter.
Dexter was a five-star recruit and was the 12th overall player in the 2020 recruiting class, according to 247 Sports. His impressive ranking in high school was the highest-ranked recruit that head coach Dan Mullen has landed at Florida.
The hype behind Dexter as a high school recruit was real, and he played as a freshman for the Gators. Dexter appeared in all 12 of the Gators’ games in his first season, starting two of them. In those 12 games, Dexter had 20 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a half a sack, and an interception.
In his first career game at Florida, Dexter made an immediate impact and intercepted a pass.
As he enters his second season in Gainesville, the 6-6, 308-pound defensive tackle has not been talked about enough. But, not only did he show that his high ranking in high school was deserved, Dexter flashed as a freshman, and he is only going to get better.
Florida will need a nasty defensive line if they are going to compete with Alabama and other elite schools this college football season. Florida’s secondary has added new coaches to help improve, and potential top 10 pick Kaiir Elam will have a significant role in their improvement.
Having linebacker Ventrell Miller back for another year to lead the defense will be huge. Former five-star recruit and Georgia transfer Brenton Cox Jr. should also be a monster for the Gators defense.
That is why having an elite defensive tackle will complete Florida’s defensive turnaround. And that is what Dexter will be in 2021. Dexter will continue to show why he was highly regarded out of high school, and he will become an impact player for the Gators’ defense in 2021.
