3. Florida football fans should be excited for the new coaches

I thought it was fascinating that Mullen supported Grantham so much yet fired two defensive coaches. If he believed that COVID-19 was the main reason the defense failed, why did he fire both secondary coaches?

Clearly, Florida thought they were the issues, and the new coaches were highlighted early on this offseason by the Gators.

Florida highlighting their new secondary coaches (Safeties coach Wesley “Crime Dawg” McGriff and Cornerbacks coach Jules Montinar) and listening to the players talk about them showed me a true disconnect with last year’s secondary coaches. Luckily for the Gators, it seems they hired the right guys for 2021, and they will be a considerable upgrade.

Having new secondary coaches that will make sure the players line up correctly and progress will be huge.

Another coach that Florida hired was Tyson Summers, who will be a defensive analyst for the Gators this year. Summers is a former head coach and defensive coordinator, but he is a master on 3rd down defense. Last year, he coached Colorado’s defense to the No. 13 ranked 3rd down defense, which is really impressive.

Summers should help Florida get off the field in third down, which they were not able to in 2020.
