The Florida Gators enter the 2021 seasons with high expectations after losing four games last season. Florida football fans had some moments to be happy about, but the Gators underachieved in 2020.

A lot of that blame can go to the COVID-19 offseason and season, as that really hurt the Gators last year. Florida was one of the teams that seemed to be affected the worst by it, but mainly their defense.

Florida’s defense was terrible last season compared to previous years. The Gators have always been known to have an elite defense, and in 2020, the defense was far from it. It felt like you always knew they weren’t going to get a stop when they needed one, and you knew the offense was going to pick up the third down.

It was a weird dynamic because, in years past, you always felt like the Gators’ defense was one play closer to make the momentum swing, game-changing play. That just didn’t happen in 2020, but luckily it’s a new year.

As we get closer to normalcy, Florida football fans should be feeling better about their defense. Florida looked lost getting aligned last year, but those errors should be corrected before game day with an entire offseason to work.

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham took a lot of heat last year, but head coach Dan Mullen has stuck with him and supported his guy.

Florida‘s defense should be back this season, and here are three reasons to be excited for their defense in 2021.
