No. 3: Florida football fans should be excited about the improved defense

I touched on this earlier, but the defense was so disappointing in 2020 that it hurt to watch. It seemed like the defense could never get off the field, and I cringed anytime the Gators got their opponents to a third down. It always felt like whenever a team needed a play against their defense, they got it.

Well, Florida’s defense should be back and way better in 2021. The Gators replaced their secondary coaches, and it’s paying off already. Those new secondary coaches will help coach a secondary led by potential top 10 pick Kaiir Elam. The true junior is poised to be a star this season, and having a shutdown cornerback like him will be huge.

Another player fans should count on in 2021 is Brenton Cox Jr. The former 5-star Georgia transfer should be a monster for the Gators this season. Having an elite pass rusher and an elite cornerback will be huge, but Florida has even more studs returning in 2021.

Linebacker Ventrel Miller will likely be a high draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the Gators defensive line should be even better with the addition of Penn State transfer Antonio Shelton.

Their defense was not very good last year, but fans should be excited to see what they do in 2021.
