Brenton Cox Jr. is going to be a monster for the Florida Gators in 2021
By Jeremy Klump
The Florida Gators’ defense was lacking in 2020, but it seems that Florida’s defense will be back this season. A large part of their quick turnaround will be because of their edge defender Brenton Cox Jr.
Cox is a former five-star recruit that started his career at Georgia. However, after one year as a Bulldog, Cox made the smart decision to transfer to Florida after being dismissed from the team for a marijuana arrest. Cox had to sit out the 2019 season, but he was on the field for the Gators in 2020.
Florida has always been known for having an elite defense, but it seemed like they were missing something last year. I believe it was elite play from someone on the edge, but Cox should progress in 2021 and fit perfectly as their dominant pass rusher.
In 2020, Cox had a solid year and one to definitely build off of. He ended the year with 10 tackles for a loss and three and a half sacks. The tackles for a loss number is solid, but fans would have loved to see him get more sacks. However, in 2021, I think they will get just that: more sacks.
Cox has all the makings of a guy that will make a leap as one of the best edge defenders in the nation. Cox has all the talent in the world. The time is now for him to show that he is a man amongst boys on the field.
Brenton Cox Jr. should get Gators fans excited for the 2021 season.
I expect Cox to have double-digit sacks from his “BUCK” position in Florida’s defense. I think his initial burst paired with his pass-rushing skills will give opposing quarterbacks nightmares this season.
Cox has flashed a ton as a Gator, and I think it’s time for him to shine.
Cox should be an impact player for the Gators defense, and his elite pass-rushing skills will allow other players to make plays too. Cox will be a high draft pick after showing he is a monster on the field for the Gators in 2021.
