With the final pick of the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Kyle Trask. For the Buccaneers, they are simply drafting future depth as they have returned each of their 22 starters from last year’s Super Bowl roster.

After a Heisman caliber season, Trask shot up draft boards after showing major progress from his junior to senior season. Trask showed off his improved arm strength and touch, allowing himself to find himself amongst NFL conversations this offseason. In 2020, Trask threw for a whopping 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, getting help from first-rounders Kyle Pitts and Kadarius Toney.

Trask, who will be a long-term backup for Tom Brady, now has a chance to learn from the greatest quarterback of all time after sitting behind Feleipe Franks for the majority of his college career.

Although there are concerns about Trask and his game translating to the next level, he could not have found himself in a better situation than learning under Bruce Arians and Tom Brady for a few years as he plays his final days in the NFL. Sitting for 2-3 years will allow him to fine-tune his game, including becoming more mobile as a quarterback.

Trask was the sixth quarterback off the 2021 NFL Draft board, following Trevor Lawrence (#1), Zach Wilson (#2), Trey Lance (#3), Justin Fields (#11), and Mac Jones (#15).

Buccaneer fans should be happy with this pick, especially considering the last quarterback the franchise drafted was Jameis Winston in 2015. With Trask, the Bucs will now have their quarterback of the future once Brady hangs up the cleats for good.
