Former Florida Gators wide receiver Kadarius Toney was the forgotten man at wide receiver in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he was not overlooked on draft night. The New York Giants decided to make one of the biggest surprise picks of the 2021 NFL Draft, and they took Toney with the No. 20 overall pick.

This was not expected, as Toney was looked at as a late first-round pick. However, the Giants decided to pull the trigger on Toney early, and honestly, when you break it down, it makes a ton of sense.

The Giants’ offense is going to be incredible in 2021. They will get one of the best running backs in the NFL back, Saquon Barkley. He will return from a torn ACL, but what Barkley adds to their offense is one of a kind.

When you pair Barkley with newly signed wide receiver Kenny Golladay, New York already has a ton of firepower. Then you add in that they have receiver Darius Slayton and tight end Evan Engram, and you see just how solid this offense can be.

Now the Giants add a playmaker like Toney, and they have one of the most talented skill position groups in the NFL. Toney will be able to come in and have generated touches in year one to make an impact. Toney will be a weapon that is hard to defend for defenses.

Toney will need time to develop as a legitimate receiver in the NFL, but the Giants are a great spot for him to do it. He will not need to be the guy right away, and after being a weapon in Year 1, he can move to being a receiver in Year 2.

The Giants will be putting a lot of faith in starting quarterback Daniel Jones, but they are surrounding him with elite weapons. Toney joins former teammate Kyle Pitts as the only two Gators to be taken in the 2021 NFL Draft.
