Kyle Pitts breaks internet with reported 4.46 40-yard dash

If you have been reading Hail Florida Hail’s articles recently, you know that we are all in on former Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts. The 2020 John Mackey award winner has been skying up draft boards, with a recent mock draft having the Miami Dolphins select Pitts at Pick No. 3.
The quarterback position will always get the most hype in the NFL Draft, and it deservedly does as the quarterback is the most important position. However, Pitts is the No. 1 player in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Trevor Lawrence is great, and he will likely be a great quarterback for many years in the NFL. That still does not change the fact that there will probably be another good quarterback next year or the following year, just like the years before this draft.
That is what makes Pitts so unique. There has never been and likely will never be a prospect like him to enter the NFL Draft. Pitts stands at 6-6 and weighs around 250 pounds. He is a mismatch nightmare at that size. Florida lined him up all over the field, and that is exactly what an NFL coach will do with Pitts as well.
One of the biggest question marks about Pitts was his speed. Pitts isn’t slow, but how fast is he? I believed Pitts would run a mid 4.5 40-yard dash, but definitely under a 4.6.
Well, I was wrong, and Pitts broke the internet, proving me wrong. Pitts’ trainer Level40 on Instagram shared a video of Pitts reportedly running a 4.46 40-yard dash.
That is an insane time for someone his size. Obviously, this was an unofficial time, but even a high 4.4 for Pitts would be ridiculous. Vernon Davis ran the fastest recorded 40-yard dash time for a tight end at 4.38. Pitts is not as fast as Davis, but Pitts would have been the fastest tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft.
I think Pitts is a lock to be a top-10 pick, and I am getting dangerously close to saying he is a lock to be a top 5 pick. The NFL has never had a prospect like Pitts, and I think teams would be silly to pass on him. Pitts looks like he really could be a potential Hall of Fame player, especially after breaking the internet with his 4.46 40-yard dash.
