As we get close to Selection Sunday and March Madness, the Florida Gators will be a fun team to watch throughout the tournament. They are not a team that will be favored to win, but anything can happen in March!

Something that can’t happen but will be fun to do is creating a Gators starting basketball lineup using the current football players. With that in mind, here is my starting lineup for the Gators if we could only use the football players.

Point Guard: Quarterback Emory Jones

This one was easy. Emory Jones is the starting quarterback for the Gators, and making him the point guard makes too much sense. Jones would use his speed and quickness to create plays and then his passing ability to help the Gators score points.

Shooting Guard: Wide Receiver Jacob Copeland

Florida needs starting wide receiver Jacob Copeland to be the guy in 2021, and if we made a basketball team for the Gators, he would be my starting shooting guard. Copeland is an explosive athlete, and I think he would give our offense a guy that can run the floor and create his own baskets.

Small Forward: Wide Receiver Justin Shorter

We double dip here with the receivers, but this time we have wide receiver Justin Shorter as our small forward. Shorter is not short. He is actually a beast. The former 5-star recruit and Penn State transfer stands at 6-5 and weighs around 230 pounds. He would be our Alpha for our starting 5 and our go-to guy on both ends of the floor.

Power Forward: Guard Stewart Reese

This one was tough, but I decided to go with Florida’s guard, Stewart Reese. This 6-6, 354-pound beast would give us a dominant presence from our 4-spot. I think he would do the dirty work and clean the boards for us all game, just like he does as a guard for the football team on Saturdays.

Center: Defensive Tackle Desmond Watson

This one speaks for itself. The 6-5, 432-pound freshman defensive tackle for the Gators would handle the middle for our basketball team too. There will be no easy buckets on this lineup, so good luck driving the lane and trying to score on this guy…

How do you think this lineup would do on the court?
