Another Florida football star is off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft. This wide receiver could be a huge threat for his new team.

Today, the Seattle Seahawks used their 214th pick of the draft on Florida football’s Freddie Swain.

The pick will likely be Seattle’s final move of the draft, but coach Pete Carroll should expect to get quite the production out of the late selection.

Swain, in his senior year at Florida, hauled in seven touchdowns and distinguished himself as one of Kyle Trask’s more reliable receivers.

And while his stats don’t necessarily pop out at you, the game film shows a clutch, versatile playmaker that produces in big games and crucial moments.

Swain’s quickness and reliable hands separate him from other ball catchers, and with the help of a talented quarterback like Russell Wilson, it should be interesting to watch his improvements while in the league.

Swain’s role in Seattle?

It’s obvious that Swain’s role with Seattle won’t call for him to be an outside, deep threat receiver.

However, Carroll did find a stable backup for slot receiver, Phillip Dorsett.

And while it’s clear that Seattle has genuine talent at receiver, it’s also true that they lack proper depth there as well.

The Seahawks are currently in the better half of the league when it comes to passing, but the addition of Swain should give Wilson a much-needed extra weapon in a competitive NFC West division.

However, Swain is not limited to just offense. He also found valuable reps on the punt team as a returner.

Perhaps we will see the Seahawks try their hand at Swain as a return man after Tyler Lockett struggled last season, averaging just 5.1 yards a return.

Ultimately, we should see the Seahawks utilize Swain’s effective route running by allowing him to work the underneath to intermediate routes where he can find holes in the defense.

This is a great pick for Carroll and company that plan to hang with the other elite offenses of the NFC West.
