Florida football: Tackle Lomas Brown inducted into CFB Hall of Fame

He had a pro career that spanned from 1985 to 2002, but Florida football tackle Lomas Brown is being inducted into the 2020 CFB Hall of Fame.

Consensus All-American in 1984 and Florida football great Lomas Brown is tacking one more honor to his storied career.

On Wednesday, he was informed he was being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2020.

The now-56-year-old Brown is a radio analyst for the Detroit Lions — where he played for most of his long NFL career.

But, Brown is being honored for his work with Florida football.

That included being a part of one of the best offensive lines in Gators’ history along with Phil Bromley, Billy Hinson, Crawford Ker and Jeff Zimmerman.

He helped lead Florida football to its first SEC championship — which was later vacated following an NCAA investigation into then-head coach Charley Pell.

In his senior season at Florida, Brown was tabbed the team captain and later earned first-team All-SEC honors as well as a consensus All-American and winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy — honoring the best blocker in the conference.

Brown in the Pros

Following his career with the Gators, Brown was the 6th overall pick in the 1985 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

He spent 11 years with the Lions, playing in 263 games, starting 251 of them. Amongst his pro honors are:

  • Seven-time Pro Bowl selection
  • Three-time first-team All-Pro
  • Three-time second-team All-Pro
  • Four-time first-team All-NFC

After his time in Detroit, Brown played for the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers — where he was also part of a Super Bowl championship team.

Since his retirement, Brown has gone on to discuss his health struggles following a long, storied career in college and the pros.

For all of his hard work in the pros, Florida football fans will always remember what Lomas Brown brought to Gainesville.
